To
promote cultural development and enrich campus life, the 2023
Freshmen Talent Show of the School of Materials Science and
Engineering (SMSE) was successfully held on the evening of December
14 at the Grand Auditorium on the West Campus. The event was
co-hosted by the SMSE and CSCEC West Construction. Attendees included
Zhang Shaokai, Recruitment Manager of CSCEC Concrete (a subsidiary of
CSCEC West Construction), Tian Shi, Deputy Party Secretary of the
School, Zhou Xiong, Director of the Office of Student Affairs, along
with faculty advisors, counselors, and all 2023 undergraduate
freshmen.
Mr. Zhang Shaokai delivered the opening speech, praising the event’s organization and the enthusiastic participation, which reflected the SMSE’s dedication to fostering students’ aesthetic awareness and artistic appreciation. He encouraged students to enjoy the spotlight, express themselves confidently, and pursue their dreams boldly.
The evening featured a diverse array of performances. The show opened with a guitar solo, One Day in November, by Materials Class 2306.
The Street Dance Club and K-pop Dance Club ignited the atmosphere withDramaand Puppet Show.
Materials Class 2318 performed I Wish, resonating with the emotions of contemporary students. Glow sticks lit up the venue as the audience joined in.
The Etiquette Team showcased traditional elegance through Charm of the Qipao.
New Song of the Herdsmenby Materials Class 2317 transported the audience to the grasslands.
A lucky draw was followed by the Dance Team’s high-energy Dance Medley.
The Variety Team’s skit The Storm of 5·3brought laughter to the audience.
Yuan Sichen, counselor of the Class of 2023, performed The Sun, leading to an interactive sing-along game. After that, an interactive game of singing after listening attracted the audience.
Groups from Materials Classes 2314, 2315, 2318, and 2311 delivered a strong and vibrant rendition of Pink Venom, prompting applause and cheers in sync with the rhythm.
The Instrumental Ensemble’s Croatian Rhapsodyand piano-guitar duet Take My Handleft a strong impression.
The Vocal Team’s Song Medleyinspired group singing and audience participation.
Dance performances Take Meand Swallaby Class 2306 were praised for expressive storytelling.
The Instrumental Ensemble also performed a duet of piano and guitar titled Take My Hand, evoking heartfelt memories of mutual support through challenges.
A nostalgic shadow play Youth Without Regretby Materials Classes 2303 and 2304 reflected on high school memories.
The Starlight Choir performed a creative and educational Voice Part Introduction Song.
The SMSE Art Troupe closed with Jiu Yi, a Tibetan dance full of cultural vitality.
The event concluded with the announcement of awards. School leaders presented certificates and joined students for group photos, capturing the memorable evening.
The 2023 Freshmen Showcase successfully displayed the rich cultural life of the SMSE and the vibrant, creative spirit of its students. It continues to serve as an important platform for students to explore their talents and celebrate the arts.
