As
spring revived the earth and greenery returns, over 200 students
based in the Shicheng Student Community, along with faculty members
of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, gathered on March
12 at the Nanhu Campus, Wuhan University of Technology (WUT), to
celebrate the 47th National Tree-Planting Day. The event was attended
by Associate Dean Wen Zuoqin, Deputy Party Secretary Shen Guofang,
Deputy Section-Level Organizer Zhu Li, and representatives of
students and faculty. Together, they planted trees symbolizing hope
and aspiration for the future.
At 10 a.m., participants gathered at the north gate of the Nanhu Campus to kick off the tree-planting activity. Working in close coordination—digging holes, setting saplings, filling in soil, and watering—they carried out each step with care and efficiency. After more than an hour of effort, rows of young trees stood tall in the spring breeze, bringing a fresh splash of green to the campus. The smiles on participants’ faces reflected a shared sense of joy and accomplishment.
After the planting, each sapling was marked with the name of the contributing class or Party branch, symbolizing the students’ deep affection for their alma mater. Many participants shared heartfelt reflections during the event.
Fan Junjie, a graduating student from the New Energy Class 2101, remarked, “In the past, our university and the School were like towering trees—sheltering us and nurturing us. Today, the trees we plant are seeds of hope for the future. We must cherish our time and strive for excellence to repay our alma mater with actions.”
Cai Liuyi, who was from the First Party Branch of the Functionally Graded Materials Graduate Program, shared, “Watching the saplings stand tall fills me with pride. In our hands are shovels; in our eyes, the future. Each tree carries boundless vitality, holding our memories of WUT and our dreams for a brighter tomorrow.”
Huang Siyu, from Class 2401 of the Everest Program, added, “Each tree represents life and hope for a better home. We carry the responsibility and mission to contribute to help build a greener campus and a more sustainable society.”
To conclude the activity, teachers and students gathered around their newly planted trees for group photos, capturing the meaningful moment.
Reportedly, the School has hosted this tree planting event for 13 consecutive years. It has already become a key initiative for advancing the integrated development of the Five Educations, cultivating cultural identity and community spirit, and promoting growth, collaboration, and sustainability. This long-standing tradition not only raises students’ awareness of the value of labor, but also strengthens teamwork and injects fresh vitality into the vision of a beautiful and vibrant WUT.
