To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, foster students’ patriotism, national pride and sense of responsibility, the Growing Together with the Motherland—Speech under the National Flagpatriotic education event was held on the morning of September 30 at Flying Horse Square on the West Campus. The event was jointly organized by the Publicity Department, the Office of Student Affairs, and the University Retired Cadres Committee. Attendees included representatives from the Graduate Student Affairs Office, the School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE), the International School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Automation, student affairs coordinators, faculty representatives, counselors, and more than 300 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Shen Guofang, Deputy Party Secretary of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, presided over the ceremony.
At exactly 7:00 a.m., faculty and students from the SMSE, the International School of Materials Science and Engineering (School of Materials and Microelectronics), and the School of Automation assembled at the square. Dressed neatly and standing orderly, they faced the flag-raising platform with solemn expressions. As the flag guard entered the square in perfect formation, their crisp uniforms and resolute steps signaled the beginning of the ceremony. With unwavering postures and focused gazes, they escorted the Five-Starred Red Flag to the platform.
As the national anthem played, the flag was raised steadily, drawing the attention of all in attendance. Faculty and students saluted with reverence, their eyes fixed on the flag as it soared skyward, a symbol of shared pride and devotion. Voices soon rose in harmony with the anthem, uniting hearts under the banner of the nation.
“My motherland and I can never be apart…” Retired faculty members and veteran Party members joined the Starlight Choir on stage, their voices filled with emotion as they led a heartfelt rendition of My Motherland and I. Waving small flags, the audience joined in, their singing a powerful expression of love and best wishes for the motherland.
“We shall, in the name of youth, uphold our patriotic aspirations…” Student representative Geng Lishan then stepped forward to lead the patriotic oath. Her firm and passionate voice inspired all students to recite their pledges in unison patriotic oath. Following her lead, students recited their patriotic vows in unison. Their resounding voices filled the square, showcasing the patriotic spirit and unwavering resolve of the younger generation.
To conclude the ceremony, all participants joined in singing the university anthem Song of Excellence. Though the flag-raising ceremony came to a close, the deep sense of pride and love for the motherland lingered—etched in the every heart, like the ever-bright Five-Starred Red Flag flying high above.
This solemn ceremony was not only a patriotic education, but also a spiritual journey that deeply moved all participants. Through this dignified ritual, both students and teachers were reminded of the nation’s greatness and glory, reigniting their passion for serving the country and reaffirming their commitment to its continued prosperity.
