To implement the national education conference spirit and fully align with the university’s “5·30” Action Plan, the School of Materials Science and Engineering has been actively advancing the coordinated development of the “Five Educations” (Moral, Intellectual, Physical, Aesthetic, and Labor Education) and optimizing its talent cultivation strategy by leveraging student communities and promoting sports as a core component of holistic education. On the afternoon of November 21, the Vibrant Talents, Dynamic FutureSports Carnival and Fun Sports Games for the Class of 2024 undergraduates were held on the main athletics field at Nanhu Campus. The event was attended by Shen Guofang, Deputy Party Secretary of the School, along with faculty advisors, counselors, and all undergraduate freshmen of the Class of 2024. The ceremony was hosted by Wang Shuyin, Counselor for the Class of 2024 undergraduates.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Secretary Shen emphasized the School's tradition of distributing sports equipment to new students, aiming to promote physical well-being, relieve academic pressure, and enhance after-class happiness. He encouraged students to cherish campus life, step away from excessive digital time, get out of dormitories, and embrace the sports fields—developing lasting exercise habits, experiencing the joy of sports and health, and building resilience and strong character through physical activities.
Deputy Secretary Shen also presented a Letter of Appointment to sports instructor Tang Suna, who will leverage her professional expertise to offer personalized fitness guidance and encourage more students to participate in structured exercise programs.
Guan Shangjun, a student representative from the Class of 2024 undergraduate cohort, delivered a speech expressing gratitude for the distribution of sports supplies. He pledged that students would make good use of the supplies, develop a healthy habit of doing sports, and carry the values of teamwork and perseverance into their studies and daily life.
Faculty advisors then distributed sports equipment to each class, encouraging students to engage in regular, scientific, and healthy exercise routines and to develop a disciplined lifestyle over time.
To conclude the opening ceremony, Instructor Tang led participating students and teachers in a warm-up session to dynamic music. The interactive exercises not only prepared everyone for the upcoming competitions but also created a lively atmosphere.
Following the warm-up, the games orderly began. Events such as dodgeball, fun relays, mixed relays, stepping-stone challenges, and five-legged races kept the energy high and the laughter flowing. Students showed teamwork and competitiveness, while non-competing classmates served as volunteers—guiding teams, managing venues, and maintaining order—and ensured that the games ran smoothly.
The School of Material Science and Technology has consistently emphasized moral education and student-centered development. Integrating the Five Educations into its excellence-oriented talent cultivation, the School continues to promote a robust campus sports culture. Moving forward, the Vibrant Talents, Dynamic FutureSports Carnival series will continue, staying true to the principles of “character-first, ability-focused, knowledge-based, and all-round development.” These principles aim to offer students opportunities to challenge themselves, align with the goals of developing New Quality Productive Forces—a national strategy focused on innovation-driven growth—and foster future leaders in the building materials and construction industries.
