As
the golden autumn sets in with the fragrance of osmanthus blossoms,
the opening ceremony of the 21st University Games at Wuhan University
of Technology (WUT) was held on the morning of October 25 at the main
track and field stadium of the Nanhu campus. Following two days of
fierce competition, the School of Materials Science and Engineering
(SMSE) proudly secured Second Place in the 2024 Faculty Sports
Competition, Second Place in the Women’s Team Event, Fourth Place
in the Men’s Team Event, and the Outstanding Cheerleading Team
Award, showcasing the school's athletic spirit and unwavering
determination.
A Grand Opening, Great Enthusiasm
At the start of the event, delegations from various schools marched onto the field. Leading the procession was the faculty team from the School, clad in sportswear and waving vibrant red flags, their eyes brimming with energy and passion.
With synchronized strides and resolute voices, the SMSE students advanced toward the podium, chanting “Excellence in Materials, Mastery of Science, United at WUT, Dreaming of the Future!”Their powerful steps and spirited slogans echoed like a rallying drumbeat, reflecting their vision and commitment to innovation for the betterment of society.
The School’s cheerleading team captivated the audience with their dynamic choreography and graceful movements. Their dazzling costumes shimmered under the sun, igniting the crowd’s enthusiasm like flickering flames.
Following the procession, all attendees rose to sing the national anthem. WUT Party Secretary Xin Sijin extended warm congratulations on the successful launch of the 21st University Games, expressing gratitude to all organizers who meticulously prepared for the event. Student-athlete Yin Sihan, faculty representative Li Wei, and referee representative Huang Jingxian then took their solemn oaths.
One of the highlights of the opening ceremony was the "Thousand-Person Tai Chi" performance, where SMSE students demonstrated fluidity in movement—perfectly blending strength and grace. As the gentle autumn breeze carried fluttering banners across the stadium, the 21st University Games officially commenced!
Fierce Competition, Unwavering Determination
Throughout the tournament, events unfolded with intensity and precision. The SMSE faculty members showcased their perseverance and teamwork across competitions, injecting vitality into campus life.
On the track, the SMSEstudent-athletes sprinted like arrows toward the finish line, pushing their limits with unwavering determination. In the high jump and long jump events, they displayed exceptional agility, tracing elegant arcs through the air. During the relay races, their steely focus and fierce teamwork embodied the very essence of sportsmanship. Facing formidable opponents, they demonstrated courage, resilience, and a relentless drive to excel—living out the true spirit of competitive athletics.
This year’s University Games was not only a grand showcase of athletic excellence but also a stage for testing endurance, skill, and willpower. Each moment of the athletes' struggle on the field will remain an indelible memory. Looking ahead, we hope they continue to demonstrate their excellence and write new chapters of glory.

After two intense days of competition, the School of Materials Science and Engineering celebrated multiple victories, securing: Second Place in the 2024 Faculty Sports Competition, Second Place in the Women’s Team Event, Fourth Place in the Men’s Team Event, and Outstanding Cheerleading Team Award.
