简介 | In the past decades, catalysts have massively revolutionized chemical industry and extensive research has been done to develop new catalytic materials and further increase the performance of chemical manufacturing processes. Nevertheless, the production of by-products, the neutralization of unreacted starting materials and the employment of toxic solvents are serious drawbacks that need to be addressed. In order to tackle these shortcomings, is it possible to embrace Green Chemistry principles of preventing pollution at the molecular level, eliminating the use of hazardous chemicals and solvents, and with the use of more efficient catalytic materials that can be recycled. Thus, the use of heterogeneous catalysts have grown exponentially, given their ease of separation and recyclability compared to homogenous systems. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are a new sub-class of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) composed of metal ions and imidazolate ligands able to generate an ordered 3D porous structure comparable to commercially available zeolites. On this research thesis, the synthesis and application of ZIFs and ZIF-derived materials are validated with particular emphasis on their green chemistry application in organic dyes photodegradation and direct synthesis of cyclic carbonates starting from epoxides and CO2. | |
