简介 | The synthetic plastics continue to accumulate in nature, leading to increased demand for the development of alternatives. Biodegradable polymers prepared using raw materials from natural resources are good substitutes for commonly used petroleum-based materials. Polyesters such as polycaprolactone, polyvalerolactone, and polylactide are most widely studied biodegradable polymers for biomedical, pharmaceutical and packaging applications. The most common method to synthesize polyesters is the ring opening polymerization of cyclic monomers. Mostly, metal-based catalysts or organocatalyst are used for ring opening polymerization of cyclic monomers. However, in the case of biomedical applications, the separation and recovery problems associated with soluble metal complexes have been extensively pursued the synthesis of heterogeneous catalysts as potential initiators for polymerization. In other words, the use of heterogeneous catalysts develops exponentially because they are easier to separate, regeneration, and reuse making them more attractive than homogeneous counterparts. To keep this in mind and to focus on the metal-free polymers, we designed and synthesized different MOFs and their derivatives, which have been used for ring opening polymerization of cyclic esters. | |
